My name is Arthur Benjamin Brown, though my friends call me Brother Ben, and I am reaching out to you with a personal story and an important request that I believe aligns with the values and mission of the 119th Congress, 1st Session’s mission.
I grew up in Dickson County, Tennessee, and have spent over 15 years working in the computer networking industry. My wife, Stephanie, and I have been married for nine years, and together, we have four children. I am also an alumnus of Morris Brown College. However, my story today comes from a deeply personal place.
At the age of 35, over a decade ago, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Vitiligo. This condition causes the body’s immune system to attack melanocytes, which are responsible for skin pigmentation. As my brown skin spontaneously began to turn white, I faced a drastic and challenging transformation, one that affected my appearance, self-esteem, and even led to significant social isolation and depression. The stigma surrounding skin diseases like Vitiligo is still prevalent, and as a result, I experienced painful encounters with others who did not understand the condition.
Through years of introspection, emotional healing, and spiritual growth, I was able to transform my life. I found strength in embracing who I truly am, recognizing that my skin does not define me. This journey led me to write and publish a book in 2023 titled “Embracing Your Higher Self: Mastering Self Love with Vitiligo,” which is available on Amazon, Audible, and Kindle.
This book aims to help others who struggle with self-esteem and emotional trauma due to conditions like Vitiligo, or any other obstacles in life. My mission is simple: to offer a resource for people who are dealing with a skin condition that affects their confidence and mental health.
I believe in the power of healing, self-love, and growth, and I would be honored to contribute to this cause in any way I can.
By making this resource more accessible to the public, My book can help countless individuals living with skin diseases and disorders reclaim their sense of self-worth. Specifically, I ask for your support in making available in every school, prison, and dermatology clinic across the country.
By making my book available in these institutions, we can support individuals with skin conditions by offering them the tools and guidance to heal from within and build confidence despite the challenges they face. It’s my hope that through this effort, we can help others embrace their unique selves and feel empowered to overcome their struggles, just as I have.
