Born and raised in Chicago, Michael McGowan has albinism and is legally blind. Following a 30-year career in local government service as an information technology professional in court management, Michael McGowan dedicated his time advocating for people with albinism.
In 1993, he became involved with NOAH (National Organization of Albinism and Hypopigmentation) and served as a board member from 1995 to 2009, holding the position of president of the organization from 2001 – 2009.
On January 1, 2010, Michael McGowan became the first executive director of NOAH. Michael McGowan continued his engagement with the albinism community and serve as one of two Executive directors of the Global Albinism Alliance.
